Vernissage 2022

Dawson College

Dawson College holds a vernissage every year for the graduating class of Graphic Design where every participating student must submit a poster design for the event.

MISSION

EXPLORATION

Design a poster advertising Dawson’s Graphic Design Vernissage of 2022.

It’s no secret that everyone has had a turbulent last couple of years, including the graduates of the Graphic Design program with the last two vernissages having to be online. With this in mind, I had to explore what is unique about this year and how to portray that in a visual approach. The process became a pile of sketches, cutting and pasting, and mind mapping.

APPROACH

OUTCOME

Our year of graduates were very much in the midst of the pandemic with us going online in 1st year to being the first ones back in person in our 3rd year. I could only define this as a whirlwind. So the way I wanted to approach this was to have a visual representation of ‘whirlwind’.

The final poster has the main information in the hierarchy captured in movement as if being moved by the visual of the whirlwind which was created using the names of the graduates in a very small type size. For the important content of the dates and address, they are anchored so viewers can easily find the info, as well as to not add too much chaos.
