Optical Art is a style of visual art that plays with illusions through patterns, vibrating colors, and dynamic visuals.

EXPLORATION

Create a short ad for the new OP ART exhibition at the MAC museum using elements found in the works being exhibited.

Looking at the different artists displayed at the exhibition, I was immediately inspired by Denis Juneau’s work. From there, I researched what made Op Art unique as well as the 1960’s. Once the mood was established, I began to sketch out storyboards and explored dynamic color pairings.

APPROACH

OUTCOME

Many of Juneau’s art is colorful and plays with circles, making this the focus of the video. The project needs to convey a sense of excitement through movement engaging the watchers to be curious to come to the exhibition.

The final motion graphic is a fast paced video filled with moving spheres bringing the viewers from scene to scene. The movements are accompanied with playful music (very much inspired by sitcoms’ theme songs) as a ‘soundtrack’.
