Marc Newson
Design an art book that would present and as well express the work of Marc Newson.
In the exploration phase for this project, I took a look at the various works of Newson taking note of repeating elements and materials. From there, I went on to explore through sketches which then led me to experiment by melting acrylic on a stove top.
Since Marc Newson is a product designer, it was important that the book should not only be a book, but as well be an object. With this idea, I wanted to create a slipcase that was inspired by his works, and design the book layout to display them, (essentially making a catalog).

Inspired by Newson’s ‘Felt Chair’, the final art book is encased in a slipcase made from a singular colored translucent acrylic sheet that has been shaped and warped, hugging the book. The cutout in the slipcase peeks at the name of the artist making this the actual cover of the book. With this in mind, the actual cover of the book became the table of contents.
The layout of the book heavily contains white space to let the artist’s work be the main focus. At every chapter, a different colored acetate starts off the new content.
